I went to church today.

A large portion of my farm family attends a small peace church here in town. They meet in a large house, translate everything back and forth between English and Spanish, and I think follow almost entirely the Anabaptist tradition, being that they are mostly Mennonite, or influenced by the Mennonites. I loved it. Now, I am attempting to be cautious in my commitment to a church, but am finding it more and more necessary that I do commit somewhere. I am a bit afraid of the Church (big "C") with all of its myriad heads and representations and theories and just plain shit, but there are groups of people, most notibly this one, who are calling themselves the Church (big "C"), and are making it beautiful. I think I would like to be a part of that.

Also, thanks to my mom, I am reading this book

and enjoying it. I am learning things that I needed to know and hearing things that I already believe and that is always comforting as you start your journey through the nasty tangle of theology.

Also, I found an envelope in my farm mailbox that said "To Ellie, from the tooth fairy", that contained $290 in cash. So... thank you to whomever was so ridiculous as to give me this amazing gift. It too will go straight to the teeth.

amen.

It's kind of scary how that small peace church can draw so much love and warmth out of you towards it in only the first hour. Be careful, you'll never want to go anywhere else.

we are both 'blogging' with more regularity at this time of such irregularity in our lives (and I don't mean bowel movements).
I will click on my blog's little 'ellie link' with more frequency now because of this.
Yes, I know what you're thinking... "an 'ellie link!?'" Yes, I have one of those. Bad. Ass.
